How does parenting time/visitation affect a baby/child?

My ex-girlfriend recently gave birth to a baby girl 6 months ago. She is truly the most gorgeous baby on the planet. The reason we broke up was simply because we argued a little too much. And it's understandable so since both of us were going thru very difficult times. Neverthless, the baby is staying with her full time while I visit with her 2 to 3 times a week since she lives in CT and I live in NY (a 45 min drive).
Appx 3 months ago, I asked if she would give me a time frame for when she would think it's appropriate for the baby to spend at least a weekend with her father, to which she responded, "they say it's not good for at least 2 years". So then I asked, would you mind accompanying her and spending a weekend at my place so that I can be with her, to which she responded, "I don't think that's a good idea because if I give you and inch you want a mile", (in regards to wanting to see my daughter). Is that wrong of me?
Not wanting to take a chance with her lunacy, I took her to court for the right to see my daughter in my house. The mother basically has controlled visitation by making me a baby sitter and part time father, which I am not! I've been relegated to spending all of my time in the mother's bedroom, (in her sister's house) since she has no residence of her own, nor a job.
I on the other hand own my home, which has a baby's room all ready for her.
To make a long story short, I won the court case! For the first 4 to 5 years, we will be sharing custody! I will have her every other week. So for 7 days, she'll be with me, and for 7 days with her. She plans to counter the decision.
Is the court order right or wrong? Is 50/50 detrimental to my daughter?
I should note, that the mother, although having many faults, is seemingly a very good, loving mother. And I like to think that I am too.
But once again, is the court order right or wrong? Is 50/50 detrimental to my daughter?
