How do I tell how he feels about me?

I moved back out to New York after 6 years to be with my childhood sweetheart. We have been dating for 5 months and I am confused about how he feels about me now. There are times when he is excited to see me and other times where it feels like I am apart of his job. It sets me the a whirl wind. I am in no rush for him to fall in love with me, but it still would be nice to know a bit of how he feels about me. I don't even know why it feels important for me to know.

Thank you everyone! I did ask him and we just decided to take it slow. I moved back to NY because it was between him asking me and me deciding to. It is confusing, but I understand why I moved here and I couldn't be happier. Thank you everyone!
