Am I being paranoid or is there any legitimacy to what I'm doing?

Throughout my life, I have been betrayed by many of my friends who I thought I could trust. Recently, I've befriended new people, including someone who I think I can trust and will be a good friend.

We've hung out a few times, but recently, I've been receiving excuses why we can't hang out, or sometimes no response at all. Surely, other people have lives and other things to do, but something in my head keeps questioning his motives, and if he even wants to be friends and hang out. I get the feeling that I've been lied to about his whereabouts, but I can't confirm that without being invasive.

Am I being overly paranoid and skeptical? Or should I just let this go?
I know I'm being vague and cryptic when I ask this, so if you'd like more details I'll be happy to share.

Basically I always shoot this kid a few texts asking to hang out, and I get responses that imply he is doing other things with his life. My problem is that I don't believe him for a second, but I've had a history of not trusting people, so I'm just trying to see if others think I'm being paranoid or what. I get things such as "I'm going somewhere with so and so" or "Im working tonight" or no response at all.

Is he avoiding me or am I over-thinking this?
