Is it all right for me to make friends that are woman?

Ok a few days ago I meet this woman that I meet online & my girl friend got all upset with me. Nothing happened between this other woman & me, we just talked & got to know each other. Yet my girl friend freaked out on me thinking I was dateing this other woman.
