I am a Capricorn male. Should I date a Gemini woman?

My father married a Gemini woman (my mother) and they argued a lot. Separated, got back together, finally divorced. Extended family all said it was because they married too young.
I have always avoided dating Gemini women because I figured they were trouble but I recently realised that it is my mother who has had a more successful life.
The problem is that I am the same sign as my father. Should I continue to avoid a match I know was unsuitable for my parents? Or should I avoid the same sign as my mother because it's too close to home?
I don't really believe in astrology but I'd feel like a fool to make the same mistake after living through it as a child.
