Girlfriend's Crazy Trash Can Location

My girlfriend insists that the trash can in the kitchen must go under the sink and can not be out in the open. However, the only trash can that can fit under sink is like a foot tall and would fill up with just several pieces of trash. Hence you would most likely need to empty it a few times during a dinner service. To combat this, she put a larger trash can in the bathroom and said that when we have excess trash we can walk to the bathroom and put it in there. I think that the a reasonable sized trash can that is not too ugly can be out in the open in the kitchen. Especially when the alternative doesn't make any sense. The fact that the alternative is a small trash can that can fit nothing and putting overflow trash in a larger trash can that is in the bathroom sounds crazy to me. I feel like i'm taking crazy pills here!!
