"Broken Promises"

"I was 100% ready to give him 60k a year of my bonus money (basically most of it) no strings attached. But I lost my job and my bonus so that went out the window. I thought it would be understood that I was willing to help him with my extra $. Now he's like the mafia acting like I owe him this money no matter what.

True I got a new job (a year later) but it pays less than 1/3 what I used to make. I wish I could but I can't help him right now. I'm still paying off my own credit card bills and have a family to look after. I see pictures of him on Facebook slacking & partying at school. 80% of his classmates somehow found a job. He's blaming me instead of focusing on getting his life together. I agree it's not the situation we wanted but that's life and we've both had to adjust. A lot of people have student loans. Once he finds a job it should take care of itself.

"He's always been a little spoiled but I never expected this. Our dad's a really generous man who taught us to share wealth with family, esp re: education. [i.e. I paid $7k for our little sister to go to summer school abroad] After I lost my job in Jan, I still tried to help him with school when he started in Aug thinking I'd find a job soon. [Yes, he kept expecting payment knowing I had been unemployed for 8 mos] It wasn't till I only had 3 months of savings to live on and that I had to tell him I just couldn't help anymore.

What funds did he think were set aside? I had one year of good pay in Jan 2007 before I was laid off. He didn't get into any bschools the first time [procrastinating apps, low test scores] around so I put most of my money away in a retirement account (which he knew about). So he applied a second time and got in around the time I was let go in 08.
