Stopped From Protecting Myself

"My friends and I dont get along with another group of people.We were at the bar one night and the other group walked in we confronted each other. One of my friends and one of their people started fighting, I went to go break it up so we could leave before the cops came.Iof their people swing at me and i went to block the punch and was being held back but i broke loose and blocked it and then everybody left.I later found out my wife was the one holding me back.My argument is you shouldnt hold someone when there fighting because that puts them in danger.She thinks she was protecting me from getting in trouble but it was self defense."
