Is it he or me who's diluted?

We're both 40 and recently out of marriages. Began "dating" 7 weeks ago and it was super intense. Couldn't get enough of the other sort of thing. In the past couple weeks it's died down to dating a couple days per week when neither of us have the kids. He said he's in love with me in the first week of dating and then last week it stopped. No more "I love yous." He broke up saying he's not in love and confused about how he feels. So, is it me who's diluted to think that he has grandiose expectations about love and just hasn't given us enough of a chance? Or is it he who thinks that new relationship infatuation can last forever and hasn't given it enough time for real love to develop?
