How do you get your husband/wife to do their share of work around the house ?

Dividing the chores did not work... he just doesn't do them, or he says he "forgot." I've tried not doing his chores for him, but then when someone drops by our home the person looks around like I'M the lazy one ! One time I refused to touch any of his chores for one month.... guess what.... I just had more to do because after awhile I just could not stand it anymore. We both work... he sits most of the day . My work is physical. Any ideas ?
