Was it selfish for not asking my dad if he wanted to talk to my brother?

Usually when my dad calls, he asks if he can talk to my little brother. Instead, he simply asked if my brother was around, then said he had to go. After hanging up, my mom wanted to know if I asked my dad if he wanted to talk to my little brother. I told her that my dad said he would call back later and talk to his son, which he did. But my mom started calling me selfish for not asking and we got into a big arguement. Am I selfish for not asking my dad if he wanted to talk to my brother?
