What do you do when you don't know what the guy you have been dating wants out of a relationship?

I have been dating a guy for a almost 5 months. He hasnt' really made any mention of what he wants out of a relationship. Some say he wants me to make the first move, as he is still scarred from when he ex wife cheated on him, and my divorce papers are not finalized. How do I bring up the subject of our relationship? Is it okay to bring it up to him, as he has already asked me my opinion on how I thought this relationship was going and I told him i wanted to see him more and he is making every effort to do that.
