A cheap old dust pan was used to clean up broken glass, keep it or toss it?

My husband broke a glass bottle in the garage today and used an old, dirty dust pan to clean it up. When he was finished I asked him to throw it out for fear tiny glass particles might transfer elsewhere the next time he went to use it. I don’t want to risk the chance of someone getting hurt and a new dust pan can easily be purchased for only about $3.00. He thinks I am ridiculous to toss it when he could just clean it off. He thinks it would be fine.
