My ex girlfriend called me, am allowed to call her now if i want her back?

So, she broke up with me about a week ago after 7 months and told me she wanted to be friends. I fully understand why she lost her attraction towards me. I haven't contacted her since but she called me 2 days ago asking how I was and stuff and before that she talked to my friend who im living with and asked him how i was doing. My question is should I call her back next or should I just completely avoid contact and let her always initiate first. I really love this girl and i want her to love me like the old days.
