What to do??! Can he reconsider? Should I reconsider?

So a couple months ago, I started dating this really great guy. We're from the same town and I've known him since we were kids. We hit it off really well and discovered that we genuninely enjoyed one another's company. We're very compatible. I really, really like him a lot. Last wknd, after a night out, he tells me that he really likes me a lot and that is why he is conflicted. He likes me very much but doesn't want to continue things because I want to have kids and he doesn't. He already has a teenaged son. I have no kids, we're both in our early 30's. I told him we shouldn't look that far into things and just see how things go now. He says that he doesn't want to waste my time since he'll never change his mind regarding children. I told him that perhaps we'll fall so deeply in love that either A) I won't care about having kids or B) he'll change his mind. I'm really sad because we really do have a genuine connection and it's so hard to say goodbye. I haven't liked anyone this much in nearly 10 years. Should I just forget about him? Can he reconsider? When we last spoke, he said he'd give things further thought but I'm truly scared he may not reconsider.
