Have you ever dated someone that had a totally different family background than yours?

I once dated a guy who came from an abusive home. His extended lived with him during his childhood. All they did was fight all the time. his family treated each other like strangers. he once went 10 years with out speaking to his parents. me on the other I speak to my almost every day. I had a pretty good childhood. my family is very loving and supportive. I dont know what i do without them . Anyway when we were dating it seemed like we were never on the same page. I'm always positive and he was the exact opposite. I have short and long goals. He just tried to get through the day. He could never understand why i am so close with my family.
