What do you think about dating someone you work with?

So approximately 4 months ago, while in the office, a female coworker reached out to me via IM to say hello. Unsure who she was since she worked on a different floor, I found out who she was, then responded back minutes later. Our chats eventually let to afternoon dates, followed by evening dinners, along with the occasional brunch on weekends - all with some fooling around involved.
Since I was on the tail end of a relationship when we first met, I took the relationship lightly and thought nothing of it. But now that the previous girl is no longer in the picture, I've taken a liking towards my coworker and developed strong feelings towards her.
She a very physical individual who has shown a strong sexual attraction to me...but...since I'm long past physical relationships for the pure satisfaction of it, and yearn for something a bit more meaningful (at age 40 - she's 27) I wonder whether I'm barking up the wrong tree?
It's come to the point where I just want to hold her in my arms and tell her how much I like being with her...but i'm afraid that me telling her that, might just SCARE her away.
And taking into account that we work together, I fear the pain I will have to endure having to see her everyday, should she reject me.
It's a totally different scenario if things don't work out in a non-workplace relationship since you'll never have to see that individual again! :)

So, I need advice on how to approach the situation. Can anyone please help and man who's heart/mind is somewhat lost and confused?
