Are there times when it is better to just let a good and old friendship go?

Last month a girlfriend of mine asked me to go to an event because she thought a guy she wanted to meet again would be there. We agreed to go for one drink and then go to dinner. Once there, she ordered three glasses of wine each for us. I am embarassed to say that I really do not remember the end of the evening..but we never went to dinner and three days later she sent me a scathing email (did not call or come over) telling me that she never wanted to see me again...because I made her feel so 'off balanced'. I wrote back...apologized and asked her what I had done to make her so angry...I know she never opened that email and I have not seen or heard from her since. I would never do this to anyone and I don't think any of my other friends would either. I have many other friends...shall I just write this one off?
