What do I do about the verbal and social abuse?

I have been married for 32 yrs. I have always known that my husband is very controlling and a jealous person. This yr has been rather tough since I started volunteering for our city. I am a realtor and he doesn't like me showing propery on week ends and evenings. He does not like social gatherings and doesn't think i should either since he doesn't like them. He has a temper and has never laid a hand on me, but is very verbally abusive. So how do I handle this?
