Friends with benefits... can we do it?

Have a male friend whom I'm close to. We have kids between us. Everyone enjoys everyone and they spend the night on occasion. He wants emotional detachment and enjoys single life. I feel the same. Yet, I feel we are close enough in friendship that we can have safe sex as safe partners and still maintain emotional detachment outside the bedroom if our boundaries are stated as such, upfront. Neither of us have any other sex partners. For me, it's an affirmation as a woman to share safely with a man I feel safe with.

I need male advice and female advice please on this question. Thanks.
