He won't tell me he loves me

we have been together for 7 years. In the beginning he would say it, now he will not he says that he shows his love and does not need to say it. I know that he does, but need to hear it. Also, when we have an agruement he will say he is unhappy and has been but when we are fine he seems very happy andcontent and never says a word about being unhappy. We rarely argue but when we do it confuses me to death because I have ben thinking everything is good. He says he ony says this because he is mad and but are these true feeling? I am confused
