Am I wrong in expecting my boyfriend to call me?

We have been dating for ten years. I don't pressure him to marry me any more. We each have our own homes . Children in college and high-school. So I explain to him repeatedly that over the years I have let a lot of things go and one of them will not be him giving me the courtesy of a phone call once or twice a day. One in the morning and one at night. He feels that since he talks all day on the phone at work that that is really not something he wants to do when he is done working. What else is left? Any suggestions? P.S. He is fine when we are together but when we are apart he just doesn't do that communicating that I would like.
