I have a creditors claim in the estate of my mom. Should I offer to pay part of it just to have them go away

The claim is from a debit collector for a credit card. The claim is for $5,000. My gut tell me that the card was opened by either my sister or her daughter who had lived with my mom. I haven't seen or heard from either since my mom passed away but If I could ask them, they would respond with an "I don't know" The debit collector is unable to provide any receipts with signatures or a copy of the CC application.
