When is a woman too old to wear a traditional white wedding gown and veil?

My friend is getting married for the first time next summer. She is 36 (almost 37) and the mother of a 13-year-old child. I know she wants to be a traditional bride with all the trimmings, but I think a gown and veil are ridiculous on a grown woman with a teenaged child. Something a little more conservative would be better in my opinion. What do you think?
