My boyfriend has 4 kids and now we are doing long distance. Should I date him?

We've been together over a year. He's a great guy but the distance is killing me. And the fact that he has four kids isnt that great. I'm 12 years younger than him. My mother thinks I deserve better but he treats me better than any other man i've ever dated. What should i do?
