How to move on from your daughter/son's broken realationship?

Our daughter's long term boyfriend ended their relationship abruptly and completely with no contact. This shattered her and she is still trying to recover. He was just like a son to us. When I eventually see him and his family again I worry that my bitterness will show and that I will say something hurtful. Time has not healed the hurt we feel. Any advice?
