Dishes Dilemma????? Should the non cooker always wash the dishes of the chef????

Hi Guys they say you should put things out into the universe and it will sort it out... you are my universe today. Recently I purchased a house with my boyfriend of a year and a half and we as can be expected have teething issues, and I accept that as normal. What I don't think is normal ,however, is his lack of empathy as much as I don't want to say it and he won't want to hear it.. he is a litle egocentric. I have a job that requires a lot of my time and energy. And operates on differnet hour to the norm. I get up at 3:30 every morning and start work at 4 am ... I usually don't finish until 3pm or even later, he is at work until 5pm or 6pm so by the time he gets in we have little time together as I am getting ready for bed around 730 for an 8-830 lights out. I know he feels second at times and I know I need to put more balance into our relationship.. but he also knew what he was getting himself into when we first got together.

Last night after shopping with him for some new running shoes and getting home to cook him dinner... it was late- for me any way.. 8pm and when I announced I was going to bed, he asked me to wash the dishes before I did. Now I got upset as he had no other pressing issues, no pianos tied to his bum for him to do it himself and had woken up at 8 am which meant he had a good couple of hours before he was going to bed.. mean while I was running into walls I was tht tired. I told him No- we got ino an argument I asked him to understand my situation a little more as he could have asked a half hour earlier- but then he would have complained because he wanted to spend time with me. And besides that I made dinner- Isn't it a rule to do the dishes if the other person cooked the dinner?????? Is this a sign of worse things to come.. how can I get him to see my side of things.. I can't keep burning the candle at both ends.. thanks guys.. xx
