Should married people have access to each others bank accounts?

My husband has always had access to my bank account . There was never a real reason for me to access his account. About a month ago while at work i needed to access his account. I called and he gave me what i thought was the pass word. It was`nt. He said to wait till he got home i may be doing something wrong.
When we got home he brushed me off. When i asked him to pull up what i need on the computer a few days later he says his bank account is private. I`m thinking he`s hiding something and it is not money.
