What is the big deal about the hairdresser

my wife has packed on a few pounds and I want her to get it off before next spring and she puts on a swimsuit. I think she should go to one of those diet centers becuase she hasn't been able to do it herself. We are on a tight budget and I thought if she stopped going to the hairdresser where she spends up to $200 on hair stuff, getting it colored and cut every 6 weeks and stopped getting her nails and toes fixed up we could put the money towards her diet. She said she'd quit the nails and toes, but no way would she stop with the hair. Can't she just use the color stuff they have at the drugstore and get her hair cut at Supercuts like I do?
