allergies and skin irritation...

Hey so I've always had a problem with itchy skin, its not dry skin however and often creams don`t work. I'm talking really itchy and all the time. So I went away for a while and started taking Reactin for a sun allergy I have but I also noticed that my itchiness went away when I started taking it. I`m not taking it anymore because I don't have a problem with the sun here and I do not really have the cash to keep buying allergy medication and I figure that eventually I would become immune and it would stop working. Does anyone have an idea of some less expensive ways to prevent this? I've tried using body creams and it does help occasionally once I've started scratching it just to cool it down a bit but otherwise nothing seems to work...
