should i call or text him? or send him a card?

a guy i had been talking to for about a year called it off and said we should just be friends.. because i hurt him and because i really didnt treat him right. i understand that it was my fault and it was also his, i blame it on the both of us. anyway
his birthday is right around the corner... and we havent talked or anything..but i'm wondering if i should call him, text him or send him a card for his birthday..
mine is 2 days after his so im going to feel dumb if he doesnt do that for me. should i even wish him a happy birthday? if so.. in what way?
