Is buying your daughter-in-law a funeral suit when there's no funeral to go to yet an appropriate gift?

My mother-in-law took me shopping and bought me a funeral suit - just in case there's a funeral at some point. She also bought me a life insurance policy and a grave plot with "the family". I find this creepy and disconcerting. The family finds me ungrateful and paranoid claiming she's just being thoughtful. Please let me know what you think.
