Should a woman stay home and I man work??

Me and my boyfriend were haveing an arguement about working. 1 year ago he told me that I could stay home if I wanted to and maybe take care of the kids if I ever have any. Knoe he's telling me that I should get a job. I think that a man has to provide for a woman at all times. I will gladly get a job but just him saying that really hurt... what's ur opinion??
