My boyfriend and I have recently been fighting, and he gave me an ultimatum I want your opinion on...

My boyfriend and I have been dating for nearly 3 1/2 years, starting in high school up until now (which puts us in college). We've had our ups and downs like any couple, and with the stress of a new sememster and college athletics, we've been fighting more than usual.
This past weekend, I told him I needed time to think about our relationship, and if it was worth the fighting and pain. I told him I wanted time alone.
Well, we talked during the week, and we both agreed that we cared far to much about eachother to just end our relationship. We would try to both meet in the middle and consciously try to make changes to the best of our relationship. We would be honest with ourselves if things weren't working out, but we felt that we were better off together.
Today, we got into a little fight about going back home to watch a highly anticipated sporting event at our high school. He ended up concluding the arguement with "I want some alone time to think about this."
Despite this being devestating inside, I told him that it was fine. I told him that I still wanted to go back to our hometown and watch the game.
He immediately told me he didn't want me to go, that he wanted alone time. I still insisted that I wanted to go, not to bother him, but to enjoy my home team take on their rivals for our conference's championship.

It finally got to the point that he gave me an ultimatum: If I went to the game, he would break up with me on the spot.

Actually, he told me that he didn't want to see my face, and if he did, he wouldn't even think our relationship over this weekend; he'd end it on the spot.

I pleaded and told him I wouldn't bother him, sit by him, act differently.... If I stayed home I would most likely just cry over the entire situation that is unfolding. I would leave him alone, but I still wanted to try and enjoy myself.

He told me no, and that if I came, his family would despise me and I would ruin his night.

I don't know what to think... I'm so hurt right now. His family wouldn't do anything like that, and I have all the respect in the world for him and them.

I had reasons to go home too... my younger sister still goes to school there, and I would be able to see her for the first time in quite a while. The gym would most likely be packed to full capacity, and the chances of even seeing him and interacting in anyway would be small. If the situation came up, I would do my best to be mature about it.

We both have our faults. I shouldn't push as much, but am I really wrong to see this as being totally unfair?
