My Husband has been....mean lately

Married 2 years, he's a tough cookie but he's never been mean to me. Recently he's been saying mean things to me, and being very short tempered with me. I'm confused.

Yea we've talked about it, yea he's apologized. I just cant make sense of it. What to do? What's it mean?
