Was I stupid?

I was bored and chatting the night away when some random add-contact window popped in my messenger. I accepted it and asked the person if I knew him. He said he was also confused because he didnt seem to have actually invited me. That freaked me out a little but thought it could only be a bug.
With revealing his first name and having a profile pic, he told me I was unfair to be hiding my own name and pic. I said I didnt think photos should matter anyway. In the end, after a long argument, I let him win and uploaded a pfrofile pic.

Was I stupid in giving in to an internet stranger?
