Should I go to meet a guy I met online that lives 2000 miles away from me?

He is 20 years older than me. From what I know he is well established, has a good job, and doesn't have a family (not cheating). We've been talking daily for the past month and on the phone about 10 times. Is this still safe? Should I take some precautions? Has anyone else been in this situation? Help! He wants me to come out for 4th of July weekend and he's offering to pay for the ticket.
