Should I, or should I not?

I am two years out of a painful divorce and have not had any interest in dating yet. I looked up my very first love from high school---yes, we were first lovers for each other too. I expected he would be married w/ kids-he's not and never has been. He wants me back in his life. He was back in my life for a few months 17 years ago, but it's been 30 years since high school! We've never stopped loving each other and thinking about each other all these years. He wants a relationship, a permanent one. I am chicken----. Should I explore this or run away screaming? I must admit the connection is definitely there. We've seen each other three times and talk everyday.
