Because The Kids Like Papa John's

Side 1 says... My wife always wants to allow the kids to eat what they like and that's fine to a point. My problem is with who she's buying our food from. Papa John's sells decent pizza (I like it but it's not my favorite - the kids love it) but my beef with them is their owner and the company as a whole. They don't pay their employees enough and they feel they will lose their competitive edge by increasing their pizza cost $0.11 to give their employees health care. Here's an excerpt of what I mean:

"What Schnatter said, in response to an investor call, was the company estimated that Obamacare would result in an increased cost to the company of approximately 11 cents to 14 cents per pizza, 'but our business model and unit economics are about as ideal as you can get for a food company to absorb Obamacare, ergo, we have a high ticket average with extremely high frequency of order counts, millions of pizzas per year.'"

This is wrong and should not be supported. We've been poor years ago and to see a guy worth $250 million cry about $0.11 to help out his workers and most likely not lose sales is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is my wife still supporting him because the kids like it.

There's 3 local shops in town. The kids don't like them as much but mostly because they're always getting Papa John's. The funny thing is Id rather pay $18 for the pizza down the street than the $10 evil bastard pie.

Long story but those are the facts. This isn't about not giving them what they want. It's about showing them how to act decently in a world where morals are almost gone. My wife just doesn't get that.

Side 2 says... I get it. John Schnatter may be a complete ass but you know what? 99% off all people at that level are. Otherwise, they'd pay more and everyone would have a better life.

If I were to boycott every business that has an arrogant, unappreciative, and completely narcissistic sociopath then I couldn't feed or clothe my kids at all. I wish it wasn't the case but it is just real life.

My husband has an iPhone. They have slave conditions in Foxxconn where the iPhones are made. Is it ok since they aren't Americans? I don't know where to draw the line and just see this display as hypocrisy.

We're both educated people and unless we are gonna start to grow our own chickens, cows, and vegetables in the backyard, I just don't have the time to check every label and see where it's made and who makes it while cross-referencing their CEO against a bad person list. I work too so yes Papa John's is very easy. The kids love it and it is cheap. And while I'm happy to pay their prices, I would pay $1.11 extra if it meant their workers could get a PPO instead of whatever Obamacare provides. But it's not up to me. My kids are up to me and that's where my loyalties lie!
