I've always wanted to open a restaurant. I love to cook and the recipes I've created taste pretty exceptional according to anyone that's tried them. I want to put it to the test.
For the longest time I have been working 2 part time jobs - one a short order cook and the other a salesperson for Verizon (retail). I only do the cooking 2 nights a week but I like it more than I like Verizon. I do however make good money doing sales. With my wife's part-time salary so she can watch our son during the day, we get by and do fairly well.
I want to quit.
I want to give up both jobs and open a restaurant using my own menu. We don't have debt and have a little savings and I've already been pre-approved for a business loan to start a little place. But my wife and I are fighting because there's so much risk involved. I think I should be looking to be happy in my career and possibly creating a successful business. She thinks I need t keep these jobs which I could probably get back if I fail. I think she should be supporting me. What do you think?

We haven't had a restaurant that's lasted more than a year in town in the past 15 years (fact) and plenty which have come and gone have had a better menu than my husband will have (also fact - sorry honey).
My husband is not a businessman. He's a great cook but not exceptional. I hate to say that but it's true. And I don't even think being an exceptional cook is any guarantee in an industry with such high turnover. Even if he had the menu, I just don't see him being able to run it.
We do live comfortably now where we haven't always. It's been a constant struggle with money and now we're at a point where we don't have to live paycheck to paycheck and it's so nice. I don't want to go back to days of anxiety not knowing if the person calling me is a friend I just don't have as a contact in my phone or a creditor. I like where we are at now.
I'd love for my husband to be truly happy with work but who really is truly happy with work?
