Pushing Me On Mom?

Tragically, my wife's father passed away last year after a long battle with prostate cancer. It actually wasn't much of a battle because he wouldn't go to a real doctor, just a bunch of "herbal rememdy" crap. Anyway, since the death of my father in law my wife has been asking me to spend more time with her mother.
At first it was just a lot of "honey-do" stuff around my mother-in-laws house. However, in the past few weeks it has gotten really weird. The "event" happened on my father-in-laws birthday. It was tradition for us to all go over there to celebrate so it was understandable that my mother-in-law was a little down. I at her house fixing a loose tile in her bath room when she pretty much cornered me. It was obvious she had been drinking. It was really hard. I just sat there on the edge of the tub trying to console her. Eventually, I got her to go lay down and was able to call my wife.
My wife suggested that I stay the night with my mother because she was concerned. I was reluctant, but I do so. My mother-in-law demanded that I sleep in the same bed as her and several times during the night made inappropriate advances. I was gone before she woke up in the morning.
I mentioned it to my wife and that is when she dropped the bombshell. "Well, mom is pretty lonely. I wouldn't have a problem with it."
I still haven't recovered. My wife, whom I love, is basically suggesting I sleep with my mother-in-law out of pity. I thought I knew the woman I have been married to all these years and now I can't even look her in the eye.
Am I wrong or is she not totally ridiculous for suggesting I sleep with her mother?

If you are going to spend your time and integrity airing our dirty laundry on the internet, lets atleast be honest with the people.
1) You are unemployed and have zero intentions of looking for a new job. What is the problem with you going over to Mom's house to help her out once in a while?
2) Mom is pretty well off. Don't you think she would be more likely to help us out while you are permanently unemployeed if you were helping her out?
3) I don't see what the big deal is. You have always had a crush on Mom - I believe you referred to her as Gilf and a cougar to your friends on several occasions.
4) You are sleeping around like a dog in heat anyway... Better family than a stranger! What, you didn't think I knew?
5) Oh, and I know that you have already slept with both her and my step-sister. Not so fun when you have my blessing?
6) By the way, your dad is better in bed than you will ever be!
