Can you help me with a childhood favorite?

I was born in Nebraska because of my dad's work, and we moved away when I was very young. One thing I remember about going to peoples houses there at Christmas was these pretty cookies that looked just like holly. They were bright green, "spiky", chewy and so beautiful. Everyone seemed to serve them. Are there any Nebraskans out there who know how to make them? They would really mean a lot to me. Thank you.
