Should I stay in this relationship or how to handle when/if he returns?

I have fallen in love with a wonderful, yet complicated man. He has some baggage. Two ex-wives and a baby-momma. We are 41 (me) and 50 years of age. In the 9 months that we have been dating, he has on several occassions locked me out of his home and/or taken away the key/garage door opener when he gets upset with me. Thurday evening we were talking about marriage, buying a home together, building a life with each other; which he brought up. Yesterday he decided that we needed a break (but did not take the key/opener from me).
