Is it wise to take out student loans to live on?

Next semester I will need to take out student loans to attend school. Is it wise to take out more than I need for school? I want to take out enough money to be able to live modestly on. I figure that I can pay all my bills and live on about $1000 a month. This would allow me not to have to work, focus on my studies and really make life less stressful for me. Is it wise to take out an extra $6000 that I technically don't need?
