Should I buy the Mustang?
Hi everybody,
While at work today, one of my coworkers, who is also a close friend from school and multiple teams I'm on, announced he was selling a beautiful 1996 Ford Mustang for $3,900. I immediately hopped on the offer and told him I'd need to ask my parents.
After talking and considering, we have made the following list of pros and cons about the purchase.
One thing is we would not have to shop around for a car. The mustang would suit me very well in getting to and from school, work and the like. It is also relatively cheap compared to many used cars. We're buying it from a friend that I trust very much, so I'm relatively sure the car is in good condition. Not to mention, who doesn't want to drive a mustang???? Haha.
However, there are multiple drawbacks, the primary one being insurance. Also, even though I trust my friend, the mustang has 160,000 miles on it. My friend assured me that the cylinder heads were redone last year and that his father put a lot of work into the car. It also has brand new tires and rims that are two months old. He's also put a new stereo system into the car.
I have a summer job right now, so money is not a huge concern in this buy, but I don't want to have to buy a new engine in 6 months. Could anybody with any car experience please help me out here? This would be my first car, and at 3900 dollars, I consider this a great deal for me. Just looking for the opinions of the sidetaker group. Thanks guys!
