How do I get my co-worker to STOP.........................

My co-worker prefers to get as physically close to other human beings as possible. Only one person here actually likes it. I hate it! I tried saying:"I smell alcohol!" when he did it the last time, but that didn't work. Any ideas besides just telling him to back off because he is violating my personal space?
