Who's Time Is It?

Side 1 says... I've been happily married now for 3 years...my wife is beautiful, intelligent and caring. On our 2nd year of marriage, I learned that we we'd be giving birth to our first child (a baby boy)!! It was probably the best day of my life.

My work day ends at roughly 3:30pm each day. I work in the IT department for a major banking corporation in Manhattan. My commute home is roughly 30 mins everyday - I'm usually home by 4. My wife works a 9-5 job at a prestigious publishing company and arrives home at roughly 5:30pm each night.

My wife has taken on the daily ritual of feeding our child at the exact same time each night (6pm). In order to facilitate the feeding, she puts on a 45 minute "Barney" video to entertain him.

This poses a problem! At 6 pm, I like to watch the nightly news.

I feel like this is "my time".

I've worked a long hard day and wouldn't mind relaxing a bit while watching the 6 o'clock news. Having my son watch a Barney video doesn't make any difference at all during the feeding process. My wife however disagrees.

All I want at this time is to watch the news. Is that too much to ask?

There's a 2nd tv set in the bedroom. Can't my wife and child go there for 45 mins? Is that to much to ask?

Side 2 says... While I should mention that my husband is a wonderful father I feel at this instance he is acting immaturely and selfish.

Does it really hurt to watch 45 mins of Barney with your son every night?

If my husband misses the 6 o'clock news, couldn't he catch the 7, the 10 or 11 o'clock news. Will the news have changed drastically within a few of hours?

Is is too much to ask that maybe he go to the bedroom instead of his wife and child?
